How time flies!
Three years ago, we did a pre-debut photo session with a young woman who was assisted by her younger sister. A few days ago, we did a pre-debut session with the younger sister, named Kyla.
Together with my partner stylist, Vna Routel we went back to Kalsangi, one of our favorite photo session locations. It was the ideal location for a shoot that meant to show the spirited freedom of a young woman turning 18, with its vast area, and of course, the presence of horses, symbols of travel, movement, and desire.
Kyla chose a Spanish themed shoot. In one set, Kyla wore a black laced dress, enwrapped with a floral scarf. Love x Metaphor tied her hair into a bun and accented it with a large red floral piece that recalls the flowers worn on the heads of flamenco dancers. She dances a bit, and we capture her movement in several frames.
In another set, she lets her hair down as she interacts with the horses, stroking their muzzles to calm them down.
She changes clothes two more times. Her wardrobe matching the complex facets of her personality. She dons on an off-shoulder top, paired with a long floral skirt, and takes a pair of maracas, then she dances about playing the musical instruments. This is the talented Kyla, whose love for performing since high school surfaces. She trained in theater in high school, developing her skills in acting, singing, and dancing. She's a natural in front of the camera- self-assured and giving. We found her easy to work with.
In our wide shot frames, she is seen from a distance walking a horse. She wears an colorful off-shoulder top with a short black skirt, which shows how comfortable she is in her skin.
In another set, she is the belle of the ball, wearing a blue floral gown. In one frame, she looks out a narrow window, her face lighting up with a smile, as if looking out at a familiar joyful sight, or something new in store for her.
Her face radiates in the other frames where she walks down paths, which we hope foretells of how she will face the new chapter in her life-- full of joy, of wonder, and of bravery.
